Allium Sphaerocephalon, or better known as Drumstick Allium is an ideal plant to attract pollinators to your garden. Drumstick Allium is an egg-shaped variety, unlike most Alliums which are spherical.
Allium Sphaerocephalon is a medium-sized, bulbous perennial.
Suitable for semi-shade or full sun, but keep in mind that the flowers will last longer in semi-shade. Expect these bulbs to produce a green, egg-shaped flower approximately 50-90cm heigh, which soon turns to a rich purple between July and August to attract an abundance of bees and other pollinators.
Ideal for planters and borders to add height.
The All-Ireland Pollinator Plan recommends planting Allium to support pollinators - perfect if you have pledged your Irish garden to pollinators.
Try drying the flowers and using them in dried flower arrangements. Allium are also excellent, long-lasting cut fresh flowers.
Use a Dibber for planting bulbs.
