Some garden birds such Robins, Wagtails, and Flycatchers only nest in open-fronted nest boxes.
Over the last two decades, there has been a reduction in nesting sites for these Irish wild birds due to repair work on older buildings, and improved construction techniques have reduced the crevices in the buildings where wild birds would have nested.
This nest box will provide excellent nesting opportunities for garden birds like the rare Flycatcher to make your garden their home. Other birds that use open-fronted nest boxes include the Pied Wagtail, Wren, Song Thrush, and Blackbird. During the winter, other birds may use this nest box as a refuge from storms and freezing cold.
This nest box is constructed using FSC approved natural pinewood. A sloping zinc roof provides long-lasting protection against rain and wet conditions. A solid stabilising board on the back of the nest box makes it extremely easy to attach to trees, posts, or buildings.
Unlike other nest boxes, an open-fronted nest box is best located among dense foliage and Ivy, attached to a wall or tree. Ensure that there is a clear line of flight into the box and that it is at a height of between 1.5m and 3m.
