A resilient lawn mix for gardens with limited sunlight.

Designed to thrive in shade, creating a greener, more consistent lawn where standard mixes struggle.

Shady areas can be one of the hardest parts of a garden to get right. Many standard lawn mixes struggle in low light, leaving thin or patchy growth over time.

This shaded lawn mix is built differently. It uses fine, shade-tolerant grasses that establish well in lower light conditions, forming a dense, even lawn that holds its structure through the seasons.

The result is a softer, more natural-looking lawn that performs where others don’t — under trees, beside hedging, or in north-facing spaces.

Lower input and more forgiving than standard lawn mixes, it’s a practical way to improve those trickier parts of the garden.

Key features

  • Designed specifically for shaded and low-light areas
  • Establishes well where standard lawns struggle
  • Fine grasses create a dense, even finish
  • Lower input once established
  • Ideal for under trees and along boundaries

Composition

A blend of fine, shade-tolerant grasses:

  • 40% Strong Creeping Red Fescue (Festuca rubra)
Forms a dense, resilient base and performs well in shade
  • 30% Chewings Fescue (Festuca rubra commutata)
Fine-leaved grass that creates a neat, even finish
  • 20% Slender Creeping Red Fescue (Festuca rubra litoralis)
Helps fill gaps and improves lawn coverage over time
  • 10% Rough-Stalked Meadow Grass (Poa trivialis)
Particularly suited to shaded and damp conditions

Sowing guide

  • Sowing rate: 35–50g/m²
  • Oversowing: 25–50g/m²
  • When to sow: March to October
