Silver Birch (Betula pendula)
Silver Birch is a graceful native Irish tree, instantly recognisable by its white, peeling bark and light, airy canopy. Elegant yet resilient, it brings movement, texture, and year-round interest to gardens, driveways, and woodland planting schemes.
In spring, Silver Birch produces catkins — long yellow-brown male catkins and smaller green female catkins — which flower from April to May and are wind pollinated. Fresh green leaves follow, casting gentle, dappled shade through summer before turning soft yellow in autumn.
Supplied as bare-root whips between 40–80cm in height, these young trees establish quickly and are ideal for creating long-term structure in both small and large gardens. Silver Birch can reach up to 30 metres at maturity but has a light, open habit that makes it suitable for planting in groups, along driveways, or as part of a garden woodland.
