A Flower a Day: 366 Stories of Flowers for Every Day of the Year
By Miranda Janatka
A Year in Bloom — Discover the Stories Behind the World’s Most Beautiful Flowers
Every day of the year, somewhere in the world, a different flower bursts into bloom. In this beautifully illustrated collection, gardener and writer Miranda Janatka celebrates 366 flowers, each with its own captivating story — botanical, historical, literary, or folkloric.
Discover the magnificent magnolia, which evolved alongside dinosaurs over 95 million years ago, and the perfumed rose that fills the air of Grasse in southern France. Learn about the healing Mānuka bush, the inspiration behind Wordsworth’s famous “host of golden daffodils”, and the cultural symbolism of Mexican marigolds, Japanese cherry blossom, and Europe’s wildflower meadows.
Richly illustrated with photographs and works of art, this book is both a celebration of nature’s diversity and a meditation on how flowers shape our lives, language, and imagination.
