A Complete Guide to Ireland’s Garden Birds

By Oran O'Sullivan and Jim Wilson

An essential companion for every Irish bird lover and gardener, Ireland’s Garden Birds is the definitive guide to attracting, identifying, and understanding the birds that visit our gardens.

Fully updated with the latest research and stunning new photography, this practical handbook offers expert advice on how to create a garden that supports wildlife — from choosing bird-friendly plants to providing food, water, and shelter throughout the seasons.

Learn to identify the species you’re most likely to see from your window, including the recently established Great Spotted Woodpecker, now breeding regularly on Ireland’s east coast. Each bird profile includes information on identification, feeding habits, breeding, abundance, and song, making it a valuable reference for beginners and experienced birdwatchers alike.

Whether you’re filling your first bird feeder or planning a wildlife-friendly planting scheme, this accessible guide will help you make your garden a thriving haven for Ireland’s birds.
