Connecting to Nature's Irish Native bare-root Silver Birch trees are produced by a local grower here in Ireland.

Betula pendula is a common Irish native tree species that gets its common name, Silver Birch, from the white peeling bark on the trunk. The Silver Birch can grow to a height of 30m as it matures. It is a flowering tree species, producing long yellow and brown male flowers and shorter green female flowers, both of which are called Catkins, flowering from April to May. These flowers are wind pollinated.

The Birch has a great ability to support a huge ecosystem as it becomes a habitat for over 300 insect species. Bird species, such as the Woodpecker are also commonly found nesting in the unch of the Silver Birch. 

How the Silver Birch can benefit our Environment

The Birch grows quickly and therefore has the ability to capture and store a huge amount of carbon dioxide. The Silver Birch is a deciduous tree, meaning it's leaves fall each Autumn. As the leaves fall and rot into the ground, the soil quality improves and becomes more fertile.

 Silver Birch can create a fantastic impact in on long drive ways or garden woodlands. 

When planting these bare-root trees, leave a minimum of two meters between each tree.
