Which pack size should I choose?
-
Pack of 20 – ideal for small garden boundaries, repairs to existing hedges, or shorter runs (approx. 4–6m)
-
Pack of 40 – best suited to medium garden hedges or double-row planting over shorter distances (approx. 9–14m)
-
Pack of 80 – perfect for long boundaries, rural gardens, farms, or new hedgerows, especially where shelter, privacy, or biodiversity impact is a priority (approx. 18–28m)
Coverage is based on standard planting at 3–5 plants per metre. For a denser hedge, choose the larger pack size or plant in staggered rows.
Irish provenance hedgerow species
All species included in the Easy-Cut Hedgerow Mix are native to Ireland and of Irish provenance, carefully selected to reflect traditional hedgerow planting and support local biodiversity.
This mix creates a living boundary that provides:
-
shelter from wind
-
privacy and structure
-
food and habitat for birds, pollinators, and small mammals
From an environmental perspective, native hedgerows help:
-
filter dust and airborne pollutants
-
improve soil structure and water quality
-
create corridors for wildlife movement
Hedgerows also provide ideal conditions for many native Irish plant species, including wildflowers and long-established woodland plants that are increasingly under pressure in the wider landscape.
These bare-root species are suitable for creating a new hedge or infilling and strengthening an existing one.

How to plant an Irish native hedge
-
Plant at a minimum of 3 plants per metre
-
For a denser hedge, plant in two staggered rows, up to 5 plants per metre
-
Allow a minimum of 30cm between rows
-
Plant during the dormant season in free-draining soil
Managing your hedgerow
-
In the first winter after planting, reduce growth by approximately one third
-
Repeat this pruning the following winter to shape the hedge and encourage dense growth at the base
-
This second prune is essential to prevent gaps forming
-
Once established, prune every two years to maintain structure and health
Storage on delivery
If you are not ready to plant within six days of receiving your plants, heel them in:
-
Cover the roots with damp soil or sand
-
Keep them cool, shaded, and moist
-
This will protect root health until planting
