Traditional Irish Native Hedgerow Mix (Bare-root)
All bare-root whips are 40–80cm in height at delivery and 1–2 years old, making them ideal for establishing a strong, long-term hedgerow.
This Traditional Irish Native Hedgerow Mix brings together a rich blend of native shrubs and trees to create a layered, wildlife-rich hedge similar to those found across Ireland’s rural landscape. Designed for gardens, farms, and field boundaries, it delivers shelter, privacy, and biodiversity benefits while maturing naturally over time.

Prefer something lower maintenance?
If you’re looking for a neater hedge that’s easier to manage, our Easy-Cut Irish Native Hedgerow Mix is designed for simpler trimming and more compact growth.
How to plant an Irish native hedge
-
Plant at a minimum of 3 plants per metre
-
For a denser hedge, plant in two staggered rows, up to 5 plants per metre
-
Place shrubs (Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Hazel) mainly in the back row
-
Plant tree species towards the front
-
For a natural look, plant trees at random spacing rather than in straight lines
-
Plant in free-draining soil during the dormant season
Traditional hedgerows also create vital corridors for native plant species, including Irish wildflowers and long-established woodland plants that are increasingly under pressure.
These bare-root species are suitable for planting a new hedge or strengthening an existing one.
