Wood Anemone (Nemerosa) are an early Spring flowering Irish Native perennial wildflower, blooming from February until April. Other common names include Windflower, Thimbleweed and Smell Fox.

Watch the flowers as the faces follow the sun across the sky.

How to plant Anemone Nemerosa (Wood Anemone)

Choose a partially shaded area, such as the base of deciduous trees and shrubs, the base of roses, other shrubs, or even where buildings cast a shade. Although Wood Anemone bulbs prefer well-drained soil, they will tolerate drier conditions when dormant in summer.

Soaking the bulbs in water either overnight or for a few hours is beneficial.

Wood Anemone bulbs should be planted between September and November at a depth of 5cm deep into the soil. Space the bulbs at approximately 15cm apart.

Plant along with Bluebells as their flowering period just overlaps, giving you a display of beautiful white Wood Anemone, transitioning into a carpet of purple Bluebells.

Create a stunning carpet of flowers by planting loads of Wood Anemone bulbs at the base of deciduous trees and shrubs.

Use a Dibber for planting bulbs.
